PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Atlantic Sun Conference

Richard Jata was named Player Of The Year by the Atlantic Sun Conference today after ending the season 2nd in goals (8) and 4th in points (19). 6 of his 8 goals this year were game-winners, including one in an upset win over North Carolina. He missed the first few games due to an injury, but really turned it on late in the season, scoring 8 goals in his last 7 matches to lead the team. Jata was also named to the 2008 All A-Sun Conference 1st Team for the 3rd year in a row. He has accumulated 62 points in just 55 games since joining the team in 2006 and his 11 game-winning goals rank him 3rd all-time in the Atlantic Sun. CU has won their last 11 games after starting 2-5 and went undefeated (9-0) in conference play. Jata has led Campbell to a #22 National ranking in this weeks socceramerica.com poll and a #3 ranking in the South Region (NSCAA), right behind North Carolina, a team that they have beaten the last 3 years in a row.

Aaron Johnson received Defensive Player Of The Year honors and Doug Hess was named Coach Of The Year for the 2nd time in his career.

Campbell will play the winner of Stetson vs. Belmont at home this Thursday in the semifinals of the A-Sun tournament.
